The North American P-51 Mustang is undoubtedly one of the most iconic fighters of World War II. Known as the "Cadillac of the Skies," its range, speed, and firepower were decisive in turning the tide of the air war over Europe, allowing Allied bombers to escort even the most distant targets in the heart of Germany. The P-51 was not just a machine; it was the hope of homecoming for thousands of aircrew.
No P-51 story is more inspiring than that of the 332nd Fighter Group, the legendary "Tuskegee Airmen." Fighting segregation and prejudice in their own country, these were the first African-American military aviators to serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces. With the tails of their Mustangs painted bright red, they became known as the "Red Tails." Their discipline and combat skill were legendary, and they compiled one of the most impressive bomber escort records of the war, breaking barriers and proving their unquestionable worth in the skies over Europe.
This exclusive artwork by Alexandre Guedes depicts the P-51D Mustang "Bunnie / Miss Kentucky State," one of the aircraft of the 100th Fighter Squadron (100th FS), part of the 332nd Fighter Group. This piece pays homage not only to the aircraft, but also to the men who flew it. Every detail, from the iconic red tail to the squadron markings, has been recreated with historical accuracy to honor the legacy of heroes who fought for freedom on two fronts.
