The Douglas A-26 Invader is one of the most successful attack bombers in history, renowned for its speed, firepower, and incredible ruggedness. Designed during World War II, the Invader is one of the few aircraft to have served in three major conflicts: World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. With its two primary configurations—the glass nose "C" for precision bombing and the solid nose "B" armed with machine guns for ground attack—it was a versatile and feared platform.

The Brazilian Air Force incorporated the A-26 Invader into its fleet in 1957, bringing unprecedented firepower to its attack units. The aircraft were operated by the 1st and 2nd Squadrons of the 5th Aviation Group, based in Natal, and the 1st/10th Aviation Group, based at São Paulo Air Base, where they played a crucial role in the FAB's attack and bombing doctrine for nearly two decades, until their deactivation in 1975.

This exclusive artwork by Alexandre Guedes depicts the A-26B Invader, registration FAB 5159. This aircraft has a unique history: it was incorporated into the FAB in 1957, originally as a B-26C (glass nose) model, and in 1968, it was refurbished and converted to the B-26B (solid nose) configuration, as seen in this illustration. After its retirement from service, FAB 5159 was preserved and today is one of the jewels of the collection of the Aerospace Museum (MUSAL) in Campo dos Afonsos, Rio de Janeiro, where it bears witness to the history of attack aviation in Brazil.
